The Specific Heats

The Specific Heats blend a love for 1960s moody garage, surf, psych, and indie pop with chaos. Their sound evolved from bedroom indie pop (2006's "Aboard a Spaceship...") to energetic garage rock (2010's "CURSED!").

“groovy ‘60s-focused sound that leans heavily on Zombies-esque baroque pop, some Stereolab/Monade style retro-futurist grooves, a bit of a surf twang, with a touch of Electric Prunes-ish studio-bound garage-psyche mayhem creeping around the edges.” —Stereo Sanctity Blog

Psychic Yardsale

Psychic Yardsale began in 2011 as the post-Specific Heats solo project of Mat Patalano. After a more baroque phase of songwriting challenges with The Specific Heats, the aim of Psychic Yardsale was immediate, sparse, and concise songwriting, drawing more on post-1960s influences such as early Devo.

After releasing two singles, the project transitioned into a full band with friends Phil Sutton (Love Burns, Pale Lights, Velocette, Comet Gain) on drums and Alex Curtin (caUSE co-MOTION!, The German Measles, Army Men, Love Burns) on bass.

In a funny full-circle finale, the last show the group played was a tribute to the Bee Gees with guest Chie Morie (The Beets) on keyboards and backing vocals and it turned out that Psychic Yardsale covering '60s Bee Gees basically felt and sounded like The Specific Heats. Go figure.
